I loved this book.
I've always loved Arthurian tales and this was such a great modern tale on the legend. I was still excited for where the series would go, and had made a few predictions, but the end simultaneously showed I was half right and caught me off guard.
Bree is a great character. I struggled with the beginning of the book, as someone who has lost my own mother. But I struggled because Bree's pain felt so real, and reading the endnotes that makes sense, knowing that Tracy Deonn started the story after losing her own.
I enjoyed the rest of the characters as well, all the scions and squires, and especially Nick and Sel. It will be interesting to see how that triangle plays out.
I also really liked Sarah. I think it was just because she was kind and strong, and it feels like all too often there's girl challenges going on - but Sarah was just kind to Bree because that's who she is, and not for an ulterior motive.
I can't wait to read the second

Graphic: Death, Slavery, Violence, Car accident, Death of parent
Moderate: Sexual violence
There's fighting against demon animals, not actual violence against real animals
