The Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie

2.0

This is not my favourite of Agatha Christie's, I think I prefer her style in third person. Because though the story was interesting, I never felt an impatience to discover. I think the secluded places are also a part of her story that I love and when there is a more defined cast of characters. Reading reviews it is a common complaint that the story suffers from a blotted cast, which I would agree with. Though I must admit I was in favour of the village and the humour provided in it and the vicar's narration. The down parts of the story were enjoyable but they did not compel me as a mystery. I feel that I would have enjoyed Miss Marple and St Mary Mead if it had of been a historical novel with her involved and watching the interpersonal relationships more than if it was a murder.

I feel strange rating it low because I did enjoy my time, but it did however fail to completely compel me as to the mystery which was it's objective. I would recommend it for a light, if complicated mystery in a small English town with humour and gossip is your style.
