in the book, you focus on the climate of the 1920s & how carelessly superficial people could be. this intention isn’t as clear as I thought it’d be. it took me some reviews & research to figure this out.

I must give credit where credit is due: the book is beautifully written. the plot itself was underwhelming, but I won’t deny feeling more cultured after reading it.

in the movie, the characters & scenes hold more depth while still honoring the energy New York had in that time period. the film adaption gave a different perspective of the characters & filled the gaps that the book left behind.
