Austin Chant has quickly become one of my new favorite authors.
This book is set in the 1800's. The story follows Roy, a ranch hand and cowboy, who is trying to save up and get his own ranch. He then meets Cecily, a witch. Roy is attracted to Cecily. However, Cecily is trying to bring her dead lover back from the dead. One night Roy is shot when trying to protect Cecily. She must make a decision save Roy at the cost of the heart that she is meant to bring her lover back or let Roy die.
This is definitely a character driven story rather than plot driven and it is absolutely glorious. It involves grief and budding romance. The only downside to the book is that it is a novella and ends way too soon.
