This is easily one of the most endearing books I've read. If you root for the underdogs, misfits, and outsiders, prepare your squishy little heart to fall in love with the characters in this book. I laughed and cried out loud throughout the whole thing. Klune creates a magical world nested inside our familiar real one, and the effect is lovely. Meanwhile, he tackles real-world problems of hate and discrimination without sweeping them magically, and unrealistically away.
I consumed this book in the audio format and I HIGHLY recommend. I have not doubt it hits just as well when read on paper, but Daniel Henning's performance of the characters adds an immaculate touch to the whole thing. The only bad thing about this book is that I will forever be disappointed by any hotel that does not have a Chauncey bellhop.
"It's the little things, little treasures we find without knowing their origin and they come when we least expect them. It's beautiful when you think about it."
