Last year, I went to a job interview where the interviewer tried to coax me into commenting on the current political climate of the DRC. Never mind the fact I am not Congolese, nor does me being Black have anything to do with the job position. A few months later, a co worker commented how lucky I was to live in Australia, because to her, my chance of surviving or thriving in Africa was limited. She didn’t even know which country I was from, let alone anything about it. A few months later, I had a client congratulate me on making something of myself in Australia, unlike other Africans who arrive and “cause trouble”
