Fault on me for waiting forever between the second and third book, there was stuff that I did not remember at all. One reveal in particular was like "and suddenly, THIS GUY shows up" and I'm like I have no idea who this is lol

I will stick with my thoughts on the second book though, that I was far more invested in the more concrete orogeny than I ever was in the more woo-woo "magic", though that is improved. Kind of a life force? Sure ok. Orogeny is so new and so (sorry) grounded, that I think was the main draw of the first book. Fighting the "Earth" using earth controlling power. And also the "Earth as a character" thing, I read reviews that said that but oh I didn't realize how much they like actually meant that. I guess I like a more "hard" magic system with defined ends, and only deviated from the real world by set, fixed rules. But that's a me thing.

Ok enough complaining, because this series and yes this book are so cool, so novel, so special that it's still all good. The characters, the relationships, it's good.
