Gone to See the River Man
by Kristopher Triana
My first “horror” novel I’ve read. The premise of an older woman writing a known violent serial killer and developing ideas of being some kind of chosen one was interesting. A brief view of psychology of women who became infatuated with prisoners, knowing the person they are communicating with has done something horrible. And as the story continues we learn how horrible Lori has been herself too and why her sister is disabled. I gave this a lower rating as I was hoping for a psychological thriller and was honestly a bit bored by it taking a supernatural route instead. It was well written and paced it’s just my personal dislike of supernatural horror that lead me to rate it lower.
Summary: Lori has been trading letters with convicted serial killer Edmund Cox. She things herself special to him especially when he tells her on a place the police never found. Lori sets out with her sister, to meet the river man. The actions of Lori’s past come to haunt her in the woods and river of Killen.
