I wouldn’t personally call this a thriller.

This worked for me. Though the pacing was a bit slow at the start, I found the style kept me interested (audio in particular) and I enjoyed the more ‘mundane’ parts of the book.

The rats, the guy at the petrol station, the piano lessons etc

This had small nods toward approaching a conversation around class divides and though it never really delved into it, I found that there was still a lot to read between the lines.

I also really liked the
way Estela’s voice spoke to her mentality throughout the book. Withdrawing her voice from the family she waits on was her only form of control and I thought it was used (and not used!) well throughout.

If you’re expecting this to be a murder mystery type then you’re in the wrong place. But if you like a touch of disdain in your literary fiction, pick this up.
