Wires and Nerve, Volume 1
by Marissa Meyer
My main problem with graphic novels: they're always, always too short. You go into them thinking "This book is relatively thick; it must have a lot of story in it!" But then you finish the book in under a day, possibly under an hour, and you think to yourself, "Darn. I still want more!"
Such is the case with Wire and Nerve, Volume 1. That said, the story is good. I enjoy Iko; I enjoy the general plotline; I like how Meyer balanced everything that's going on both on Lunar and on Earth. The villain isn't amazing, but I can understand his motives and he comes off as a legitimate threat. Also, I keep looking for some kind of agenda- I don't know why, but I always expect graphic novels to have an agenda- but if there is one, I haven't found it yet.
Art-wise, I'm not crazy about the style, but it's not bad. Part of the problem is that very few of the characters match up with how I picture them (google "Laura Hollingsworth Lunar Chronicles" for fanart that almost perfectly matches my mental pictures) and so that's bugging me slightly. Still, it could be worse.
Oh, and I'm not buying the romantic tension . . . but maybe I just haven't watched enough net dramas.
