Went into this with no expectations, which is where I think some people have gone wrong? I’ve heard people thought this was a thriller ahead of time and it definitely isn’t and so I can see where this would be a big let down. Which is not to say I can’t understand why a lot of people dislike it but I found it to be a fairly devastating take on capitalism, classism and the broken concept of the ‘American dream’.

For ultimate emotional damage, go into this book thinking it is a teenage romance, which is what I stupidly did (I honestly don’t know why I think the cover just gave the summer I turned pretty vibes) and I honestly cried on and off about this for a couple of weeks :)
