Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix

1.0

The Boy was in middle school when he read this book, and he loved it. He did not stop talking about this series the entire time he was reading. Since he was never what you would call a reader, I filed this away as to read, and them promptly forgot about it, until I was on the digital library and I stumbled upon it. It was available so I took it out.

Maybe if I was a pre-teen I would find this story interesting, but I just found this story annoying. I'm sure I'm supposed to see this as a story about a young man who fights an unjust system. But what I read, was a story about two sets of the most self-centered parents to grace a book since [book:Mommie Dearest|374671]. Because their parent were unwilling/ or unable to stop making the "beast with two backs" Jen and Luke had to spend their ENTIRE LIVES in hiding. Did their parents take the risk onto themselves, by protesting or other forms of civil disobedience, (well I guess they did have sex, but that hardly counts!!) No! They made their children pay the penalty by locking their children away. At the beginning of the Book, Luke had never seen another human up close except his family!!

I was not impressed by this book and will not be reading anymore in this series. Even with MY OCD, I do not feel compelled to go any further with "The Shadow Children."
