I always love Sloane’s books, but this was really something special. That prologue grabbed me immediately (and kept Callahan from crossing a line into being a little unlikable tbh… he is working through some stuff ok?!), but then Scottie’s mysterious backstory kicked it up a notch as well. She was such a strong FMC, I am obsessed with her. The spice was SPICY, but also their story was so unique. It was a perfect combination. Normally, I am not one for a miscommunication trope, but this one was done really well and resolved fairly quickly. It was only a small portion of their overall story, so it wasn’t hundreds of pages of frustration. I loved every moment of it, even the one scene that kicked off a bit of a panic attack for me. I never realized that I could experience claustrophobia while reading! That is some serious writing skill right there. This really hit it out of the park for me. 10/10! All the stars! We are starting out 2025 with a bang with these Sky Ridge Hotshots books!
“It’s strange how you can have your heart locked up for years, then out of nowhere the right person comes along and it’s like they know the exact combination to open up everything about you and make you want something more.”
