I was judgey about this book. Good for reading without feeling, I thought. Jim Broadbent's on the cover, how intense can this get? I was irritated by the mean cardboard characters throughout the first chapter and thought I'd quit. Then the masks start coming off and I'm proper-crying as I get to the end. The description of regret and loss feels really real. The plot is clunky, but it's got to shift him from one end of the country to the other, so I'm OK with that.

I'm a sucker for a walking book.
