2.5

2.5 ig. feels too low to me but its definitely not as good as the books ive rated 3, i really had to force myself to read it and it prevented me from starting other books on my tbr that are probably better than this.

this story is slow and nothing really happens tbh. you just follow around these police guys who have no personality or character devlopment to think of. You are endlessly shown them researching and what they are doing is explained in detail that is not needed and makes the book boring.

The characters i liked were red dragon and reba, i found their interacttions interesting. I wish we were shown more of them together as we are only shown two scenes really before the big drama one so thats disapointing. I also enjoyed when will was hanging out with his family because i enjoyed their dynamic but ofc those parts were barely in the books.
Also its so misleading that this is described as introducing hannibal lecter because hes in about three scenes and you barely get a sense of what hes like and what hes capable of, so highly disapointing as well.

I also wish that there was a third mass murder while will graham was on the case. I was waiting for the whole book to read about the third mass murder as it seemed thats what the police were waiting for but then it never happened. This book doesnt really have many thriller elements as you dont get a first hand, and present time account of any murders or anything until the very end.

I would say probably the most annoying thing though was the twist. The twist is so random and out of nowhere that i was genuinely searching on google information and summaries on the chapter to try and make sense of what was happening. TBH im not actually that mad at the twist itself because the plan was interesting, im more annoyed about how poorly it fit into the story and the red dragons character development.
