Aftermath by Chuck Wendig
4.0

After hearing nothing but bad things about this book, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed reading it.

The writing style (in 3rd person present tense) being hard to read was perhaps the thing I had heard most about this book, however this personally never bothered me, and I found the dialogue and descriptions punchy and easy to follow. The action scenes themself benefitted from this point of view as it made them feel present and fast paced.

The characters themselves are fun, and each have a unique voice that made me wish for more time with them, and makes me eager to continue reading the series. However, with the near constant interludes to characters all over the galaxy that have no real baring on the immediate storyline, the novel lost pacing at times, and I started to get slightly annoyed with the back and forth.

Ultimately this is a fun and fresh take on a modern Star Wars book, it has its detractors (people who will hate anything ‘new’ and ‘Disney’) but if you want a fun quick read, Aftermath is an enjoyable ride.

All in all I really enjoyed Aftermath and will be starting the next book in the series ‘Life Debt’ right away.
