I was happy to see a book with a LGBT character and not have his story be about him coming out. Tenn lives in a dsytopian world where dark forces have taken over and those who are attuned to the elements (earth, air, fire, water) can fight against them. Tenn discovers that he is highly sought after by both sides due to a prophecy. Tenn struggles to make heads or tails about the small group who have rescued him especially the enigmatic Jarrett. I appreciated the authors attention to detail in creating this world, but I did struggle with the writing style. I felt that certain times when the author was describing a sensation or heightened feeling due to the character's powers it slowed down the narrative. Also I found I was not able to be invested with any other character, besides Tenn. But I am interested enough to see where the story goes.
