The War I Finally Won by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley
4.0

Not quite as good as The War That Saved My Life, but still great, fun, sad, and full of wonderful themes. It's more obviously stated that Susan is queer in this volume too. It was Heavily Implied™ in the first book, but even more so in this sequel.
A lot of the same themes and messages are present in the sequel, so if you enjoyed the first book, this is very much in the same vein. (Dis)ability, grief, poverty, abuse, freedom, independence, friendship, childhood. The themes introduced in this book that weren't as focused on in the previous title are religions (and various beliefs of afterlife), Judaism, the Holocaust, and death. I really appreciated all the expansions brought up in this volume, it further enriched the characters and their storylines. The climax of this novel was less exciting than The War That Saved My Life, but more heartfelt. I still very much enjoyed this story, even if it wasn't quite as good as the predecessor. If you like junior lit that deals with hard topics, historical fiction, cute + sweet main characters, you would love this series.
