Just as addictive as the first.
The first in the 'Elemental Saga' was definitely a very enjoyable, almost guilty pleasure read for me. I went in expecting to be disappointed, and while it was hardly the best thing ever written, I found myself becoming very addicted to it. The romance was sometimes rather cheesy, the story a little predictable, but who cares, I was hooked.
I went into the sequel expecting the very same thing to happen, and I was right. I won't say this is 'quite' as good as the first one, as there were a few problems, but overall it was more of the same, although sometimes it was almost too much of the same and I think that will be a turn off for some people.
The story here is very similar to the previous one, just with a different brother being the main character. Gabriel takes centre stage here and I have to say I found him to be a little (okay A LOT) more whiney than Chris. There's a lot of 'I'm the bad boy black sheep of the family, wah wah wah' going on here that can sometimes be a little annoying. There are also a lot of issues between the brothers that could have simply been avoided had Gabriel been a less self-destructive character and actually talked to them! No one likes to give a pity party to characters who have brought it on themselves.
The love interest is also very similar, and they probably will be for each book, but for some reason I just don't care. These are just very easy reads that don't require too much thought, maybe that's where my enjoyment of them comes from, who knows? All I do know is that after reading Breathless (the novella), I am really looking forward to Nick's book for sure!
Overall, I'm still not sure I would truly recommend these to anyone other than for a guilty pleasure read, and even then guilty pleasure reads can be subjective. I will just continue to be a Merrick brother groupie and move onto number three.
