The Fallow Year by Margaret Owen

5.0

To start off I was not prepared to be emotionally destroyed by 10 short stories but I was indeed and to top it off. Margaret Owen has the audacity to end it like that?

This takes place right after Painted Devil's and the first story is Emerics the day he wakes and his poor little heart. I just want to hug him all day. Seeing his thoughts for the day breaks my heart.

The second story is Vanya thinking of the events at the end of Painted devil that led up to her deicsions and you get a bit of clarification.

This goes back and forth between the two of them and their lives trying to plan their own futures and thinking about the past. It tugs on my heart strings because I absolutely love these two little dorks. I feel for Emeric and his constant what happened and not knows and for Vanya for making her decision.

My hot take; sometimes when you think you are making a decision you think it selfless and right for you both is the opposite. You take that other person's decision away and leave them in a worse place sitting in their own thoughts. Within time SOME and I mean SOME wounds do heal slightly and I think this was that in a way for both characters.

Obviously I loved this and was low-key mad at Vanya at the beginning and imma need some end game to go the right or at least a better healing and happy ending for each character in the book coming out in April or I may rage.
