The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez

5.0

one of the most beautiful books i've read in years. i feel like now that i've finished it i've been changed from the person i was before i started reading this and thats honestly the best compliment i can give to any book ever. to be hit so hard in the soul like this did :')

the books depiction of the mother-son relationship between ahro and nia is so very special to me and the best thing about the vanished birds. i'm also in love with the depiction of how the traumatized child came to open up to people and learnt how to love and learnt how being loved felt, it was so magnificently written in a poetic and heart wrenching way. these are characters who are going to stay within me for years i can say that with all surety and i'm so glad i read this book.

also it wasn't just the emotional aspects of the book that were amazing. the wonderfully detailed worldbuilding must be mentioned as well. the descriptions of the ships and the planets and how the post-earth universe worked were all very interesting to immerse myself in. i will miss this world.

also i will be sure to read jimenez's other works after this !!
