Do I despise pop culture references in my books, especially romances? Yes. Did I ignore them because this just hit the perfect level of witty, light, Halloween/fall vibes? Also yes. I inhaled this book in a single sitting, so let that speak for itself. I do wish we, as a society, would stop making references to Harry Potter, though. Let that transphobe go, I beg.
I found everyone incredibly relatable and charming, loved the family bonds and the way both the FMC and MMC found ways to grow emotionally together and on their own. Just... a good, lighthearted time with a little bit of steam and agoddamn talking cat. What's not to love?
