Stepping to a New Day by Beverly Jenkins

I received this free through a promotion from RWA, but hadn't realized it was part of a series. I would definitely seek out the earlier novels so I can get the full backstory on some of the characters. I liked the story very much - it reminded me a bit of Jan Karon's Mitford novels in their structure, and I like small town set stories.
