I really really enjoyed this book, and I'm very disappointed that Alice Walker has gotten caught up in gross antisemitism and weird conspiracy theorists. That's super unfortunate because I think this book is really fascinating, particularly in how it views religion and Christianity that was essentially forced on formerly enslaved people. I thought the variety of writing styles was really fascinating, and I don't know how I went so long not knowing that this book had WLW relationships in it. I'm excited to watch the musical version and see how these things are handled on a stage. This isn't an easy read, but it's one that I think I'll revisit again in a few years. I feel like it will tell you something a little bit different with each read.
