A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir

5.0

Badass fight scenes, the plot has clever and complex navigation of fantasy politics, magic and war. It had been a while since I was last immersed in the world of The Empire and beyond, so many of the characters besides Laia, Elias and Helene, were new to me. Nevertheless the book did a great job of pulling me back in and defamiliarising myself with the characters and the dangers they face.

This book was a page turner, and explored concepts of the nature of death, loss and grief, the brutality of war and the cruelty of people inflict and bear.
