Playing in the Dark is five months older than I am. It's a 26-year-old text which is still relevant today, since Morrison convincingly sets forth how American literature is based on and continues to show "Africanism" - racist ideas and portrayals of African Americans in cultural outlets.

All in all a very interesting and still relevant text.
