The first half of this book is a drag, to be honest. The author spends a LOT of time trying to remind readers of what happened in the first book, rather than weaving that information into a new story. However, when the story picks up around 50%, it makes the whole journey worthwhile. Things get continually more tense with each page, and the ending will have you desperate to read the next book in the series, even if you've already sworn it off (guilty)!
