I survived reading It and it only took me six and a half months 🏆

My husband and I picked this up as our joint Halloween read in 2024. It is now mid-March 2025.

I think that speaks to the absolute slog that this book is. And listen - I’m not a hater. I hand out 4 and 5 stars easily - probbaly too easily. AND there were parts of this book that really inspired me - that I thought were so beautifully written - Mike’s final journal entries being one of my favorites.

Unfortunately, the parts that I loved were surrounded by a lot of shit that I didn’t. I’m also struggling a bit with the ‘why’ of the storytelling - it felt so all over the place and so it didn’t really land for me. It honestly felt like the epilogue was trying so hard to be deep to make sure you ‘got’ the book?

Felt like there were so many stronger times in the last 40 pages to end the story. And that’s kinda the gist of every chapter. Hm. Probably could have ended it there.

And lastly - I can understand context in terms of the time that a book was written and published, HOWEVER, the endless pedophilic comments, racism, and stereotypes made this hard to get through. A small part of me thinks that’s part of the point? It seeps into everything, even the writing of this book? Maybe I’m giving Stephen too much credit.
Yeah, no I definitely am.

Whew. I’m glad it’s over.

I think I’m going to struggle to read more of King. His writing of women is atrocious and I could be reading books I enjoy more.
