Please for the love of god just refer to the characters as man/men and woman/women!!! The amount of male/female made me so mad lol it's too animalistic.

Asides from that, the book was really slow where I found that the last couple chapters of the book were the most interesting.
The plot point of Lucien being Elain's "mate" (I hate that word) came out of left field. And Lucien, out of everyone you could have gone for, it just had to be Elain???? Really???? The girl with no personality or smarts at all???? The girl who saw her family dying of starvation and instead of being productive and planting vegetables, she chose flowers instead??? Really Lucien, do you have no taste?????
The whole "mate" thing also rubs me the wrong way. It just seems, to some extent, to be so unethical and feeds into gender stereotypes way too much. Like the woman having to make food to accept the bond, or the fact the man goes on a physical tantrum like a toddler if another guy even glances at the woman. Or that the woman has to be protected. Really????? Grow up. And how does the bond work for the LGBTQ+?? Do aromantic and asexual people get a mate or are the aces lacking in so much sexual drive and the aros romantic interest that seems to be the foundation of these "bonds" too much of barrier? And what if one of them doesn't accept the bond? Do they get ostracized by their community? And what if one of them is abusive? Can the other nullify the bond?  What are the laws surrounding these bondings and does it change from court to court? I have so many questions.

And, side note, I know this is the second book but it's been bothering me, why did Sarah J Maas just take a map of the UK and Ireland and then just split it differently? Couldn't she have been a bit more creative and given us a better map to where the court distribution doesn't look so odd and unnatural like come on! You had the chance to make a beautiful and unique map for your story and you wasted it. At that point, just don't include a map. And with the wall, what about the ocean? Is the ocean just like no-mans-land and the courts or Hybern can just do whatever they please with it? Ocean law? Since fae creatures are so weird, do some of them live in the ocean? Are there under the ocean courts, kingdoms, empires type things? Wasted potential to make the story way more interesting.
