“The Rose Bargain” was a fun read, blending elements of “The Cruel Prince” and “The Selection” in a Bridgerton style setting.
Sasha Peyton Smith writes beautiful scenes and her characters are well developed with clear motives. Despite the sinister undertones, this did often feel like a cozy fantasy.
The pacing is a little off, like it was in “Witch Haven,” and there is a lot of telling when there could be more showing. But, I was entertained the whole time!
Something I didn’t realize is that “The Rose Bargain” is the first in (as of now) a duology! I went into the book thinking it was a standalone and while I’m very interested to learn what happens next, I feel a little misled. But I also didn’t do a lot of research on this book before I jumped in so it might also just be my fault.
