I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
4.0
I feel weird rating someone's personal story with a star rating, but that aside. I knocked off one star because I wish she had spent the last bit of the book going into how she's doing now.
Tread lightly with this one if eating disorders and childhood abuse are a sensitive topic for you.
But, damn wow. I can't imagine how cathartic this must have been to get all out on to paper and how brave Jennette is for putting herself in such a vulnerable position and getting her story out there.
Definitely points of the book I found myself relating too in terms of learning from a young age how to "safely" navigate the emotions of the adults around you.
Would also recommend tempering your expectations with this. It's not a scathing tell all about Nickelodeon and Dan Schneider but more of a recounting of Jennette's tumultuous child hood and young adult life.
I really hope she's doing better for herself!
