I Kissed a Girl by Jennet Alexander
3.0

On paper, this is a book I should have loved and I was really excited to read it. Lilah Silver is a young actress predominantly working in the horror genre as a scream queen and a final girl in her latest film. Noa Birnbaum is a makeup artist and practical SFX artist with a love for the horror genre. When Noa is assigned as Lilah's primary artist for the movie, there is an immediate attraction but they both let their preconceived notions of the other and life get in the way.

Like I said, all of this sounds great. I am a huge horror fan. I am in awe of SFX makeup and prosthetics. I love the final girl trope and how powerful it can be. I also really loved that both characters were Jewish, which is a religion and culture that I am not very familiar with so I enjoy learning about it.

What fell short for me was Noa. I know that both her and Lilah's personal shortcomings were supposed to stem from misconceptions and lack of communication but Noa continually just kept being...mean. And cringy. I saw a lot of growth out of Lilah and not a lot out of Noa. It's hard to root for a relationship when I only have positive opinions about one character and at best I have lukewarm feelings for the other.

I would give Jennet Alexander another try but this one wasn't a winner for me.
