I hesitate with short story collections but I really liked this!!
As expected, some stories are better than others. The body horror theme tied them all together seamlessly. I think the content guide in the back of the book helped clarify some of the stories that I originally thought went over my head - I wish more authors did this.
My favorites were Goth GF, Extinction Event, and Shake Well. But my absolute favorite was THE KING. The poignancy with the current election cycle with this story….oof. I was floored with Clark’s perspective in this piece and I would hang it up on my wall as artwork. It gave Audre Lorde “The Master’s Tools will Never Dismantle the Master’s House”. Fucking brilliant.
Thanks to Eliza Clark for restoring my faith in short story collections!!!
