Stone Maidens by Lloyd Devereux Richards

3.0

This might be a 3.25.

It's labeled as a thriller, so I went in with very different expectations that slowed the story down. The second half really picked up for me and kept my interest, though.

I could've done without the twin storyline, bedwetting, cannibalism, and love story but it is what it is.

For a debut and for someone who spent so many years on this project, it's pretty solid. I definitely need to check the sequel. Of course, I jumped on the viral train and ordered this when it was all over social media.

Here are some weird comparisons I thought of while reading.
- Devil in the White City. What I loved about that book was the HH Holmes chapters and I struggled with the fair chapters. With Maidens, it bounced between the serial killer and the technical and administrative research but didn't really give us much to work with in the serial killer's.
- Dennis Lehane books. I feel like this might be better suited for his genre so people know going in that we're following an investigation.
- Bones and SVU crossover. To be fair, I've never watched a full episode of Bones, but I think I get it enough to say that works here.

A serial killer is on the loose and only the FBI agent knows about the little trinkets he's storing in each of his victims. While her team is focused on the wrong suspect, she's leading the way to uncover the identity of the real murderer and his connection to the accused.

Also, why was Jasper the nickname for the killer?
