King: A Life by Jonathan Eig
5.0

This was an amazing biography. It is no surprise that is won this year’s Pulitzer Prize for biography. There is no gloss about the very human, troubled and complicated life that Dr. King led.
On a personal note, I frequently despair about the times we are living in and I have a photo that shows Barack Obama and Martin Luther King Jr. sitting across from each other as if in deep thought and conversation. (Photo shopped of course-from a church in Philadelphia Mississippi)About half way through this book, I had an epiphany- this is what true hope for our society looks like. We move a step forward and then a step or two backwards-we will get to the beloved community -eventually, not tomorrow or next year or even in ten years but we will get there-step by step. It was a great book and worth reading!
