My reread of this was way more enjoyable than I thought it would be. It did make me realise how far Leigh Bardugo’s writing has come but despite the simplicity in the writing in her first novel I still love what it set out: the beginning of my favourite book characters ever, one of my favourite fantasy worlds and storylines that will continue to capture my interest. I will never not read this book and love it.

This is probably the best fantasy novel I have ever read! I was hooked right from the beginning and became totally involved in the story. The fantasy world was easy to imagine, which I liked and I enjoyed the Russian aspects added to this fantasy world. I loved the main character Alina, I felt she was a bit like me. The only bad thing was that I fell for the Darkling hard - and will say no more. And I can't wait to read the next one.
