An Imaginative Experience by Mary Wesley

4.0

Poor Julia Piper. Bullied by everyone, notably even the man who "saves" her. Apart from the lovely shop owners who are the only ones who truly care for her, rather than wanting something from her.

Good character representation: an array of bullies cast against our two put-upon heroes and the shop owners. A pity, then, that this otherwise excellent modern love story (set just before the imminent arrival of mobile phones) is resolved when the man who "saves" Julia does so by bullying her into submission. That's obviously the way to get your gal boys!
