The Capture by Kathryn Lasky

2.0

In the classic tradition of overly long series everywhere, Book 1 is not so much a complete tale as it is a prologue for the fun stuff that'll come in later books. It wasn't outright bad, but there was absolutely nothing that intrigued me enough to want to continue onward. In particular, the book really, really would've been better served had not 80% of it taken place in St. Aggie's prison/ orphanage, a setting intended to be mysterious that came across as dull and unoriginal. When it comes to modern fantasy animals, I think Erin Hunter has the edge. (student book club, will not be using again)
