The Housemaid's Secret by Freida McFadden

4.0

i'd say this book was more on the 4.5 side than the solid 4, but i couldn't bring it in me to round it up to a five.

i still love the same feel that this has from book 1, and contrary to the other reviews that say this formula leaves it so it isn't as shocking/it's more predictable, i was still thrown by the reveal at the end of part I/beginning of part II.

unlike book 1, where i loved millie and found myself also loving nina, i HATED wendy. her entire part just infuriated me, which i guess proves freida's a good writer because there is NO way i was expected to sympathize with her the way i sympathized with nina.

being forced to read wendy's "woe-is-me" is what pushed this book to a 4, but the satisfying ending brought it back up to a 4.5. can't wait for the third one!
