The Wind Weaver was a 4.75⭐️ read for me. I went into the book a little blind; I hadn’t done much more research than skimming the summary a few months earlier and seeing that it had some tropes I am a fan of. That was honestly a super fun way to experience the book because I felt like I was just as much in the dark as Rhya (our FMC), so I would definitely recommend it.
Let me give you a few tropes you’ll find, and if you are a fan then you should read the book instead of obsessively researching (one of my fatal flaws). In this book you’ll find elemental magic, enemies to lovers (probably?), prophesies, a snarky FMC, a super emotionally stunted MMC with a soft spot for her, and a very slow burn.
If you still want to research instead of going to read the book, here are some of my thoughts after finishing. I am a huge fan of Avatar the Last Airbender, and this book made that part of my heart so happy. Who knew what I was missing was a romantasy book with Avatar vibes? I loved the elemental magic, and loved the world building.
The reason this book wasn’t a 5⭐️ is because I was frustrated with Penn (the MMC) and how emotionally stilted he was. I’m unapologetically a vibes rater, and it just felt like there was just a titch too much miscommunication (in the form of running away instead of talking) in the book to give it a full 5⭐️. Honestly, this proved how good of an author Julie Johnson is because I totally felt how Rhya was feeling about all the situations she was put it. Which was frustrated that Penn wouldn’t just have an open conversation! So 10/10 job on depicting that emotion. But still, it left me rooting for Rhya to have the space to figure herself out and potentially find a more emotionally available love interest, because after everything she had been through, she deserved it. I’m loving how the book ended, and secretly rooting for our second male lead to end up with her. I’ll be honest, I was kinda rooting for him from the first time we met him. I’m super excited to see where the next book takes us, and hoping that we will meet the earth remnant next book!
