I accidentally read the third book in this series first. I believe this is the author's debut novel and it's a solid 2 or 3 stars. The first third of the book is relatively strong. The other two-thirds are weaker and feel less focused. There is strong writing for the characters but there needed to be fewer subplots. Feels like the author had a bunch of storylines she liked and couldn't commit to just one. Perhaps those are supposed to be addressed in the second book but after too many directions in this book and almost no direction in the third book I'm going to pass on the second book.
