Men Have Called Her Crazy by Anna Marie Tendler
3.0

This book reminded me of my time in IOP, and I like how she captured that. I empathize with Anna’s anger, but her extreme views on men come off as immature. This was why I rated this 3 stars instead of 4. I agree with Anna, there’s plenty to be angry about, but her views are so black and white. Going into IOP, I was also hateful of most men, but unlike her, the program helped me heal and view things on a broader scale as opposed to a few instances that happened to me. Listen, I’m not one to defend men. I too have been wronged by many. I don’t want to dismiss her feelings or experiences, but I feel like she could be more careful with her wording. She criticized second wave feminism, and then presented the very same ideas. If you want to get your point across, hostility isn’t the way to do it. She brings up great points. Our point of views as women are oftentimes overlooked, women have to do more to “get ahead,” and most men are never held accountable for offenses both major and minor. I think she just needs a grounded approach when speaking on these things. I agree with her IOP evaluation. She does demonstrate a lot of aggression and presents warped world views. This book shows how much work she has to do (like all of us), and I admire her vulnerability.
The egg scenario seemed like it worked out for the best. The fear of missing out on what her friends are doing isn’t remotely a good reason to have a child.
This book left a bad taste in people’s mouths, but I see a well-meaning person who just needs a lot of reflection.
Also, everyone is upset she doesn’t talk about John. People know what NDAs are, right?
