The Shadow of the Gods
by John Gwynne
Was it good? Yeah, it was good. Not great, but good. Gwynne is the master of the sentence fragment. I think he gets away with a lot of poor writing by avoiding, well, writing. He can string together a paragraph of fragments and still convey a semi-coherent action sequence. I guess that’s good. Right?
The story was told from three characters that never meet in the story. Most of the supporting cast were indistinguishable from each other for most of the book. I had a hard time keeping the three plot lines straight as the book jumped from character to character. I would have enjoyed it more had it been told from a single viewpoint. Felt like three different stories told at the same time. Does Gwynne do this in all his books?
Still, I enjoyed it but I’ll not rush right into the next book in the series.
