It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
4.0
It follows teenager Craig Gilner, who checks himself into a psychiatric hospital after almost committing suicide. The story is funny (despite the heavy subject,) relatable, and honest. The fact that it was written after the author himself had spent some time in a psychiatric hospital, made the story real. Having been based on his own experiences, as opposed to guessing how one would be treated, it’s based on first hand knowledge. The portal of Craig’s depression, and anxiety felt very authentic which is probably why it was so relatable. Stemmed from the amount of pressure that he’s under, not being able to keep up with the growing pace of school, his friends, and family are all key components in this story; and I’m glad they were incorporated. Highly recommend
