Lasher by Anne Rice

2.0

I was really hoping this series would improve along the way. Instead we get more pointless characters who add nothing to the story and are wholly problematic. Between the racism, rape, statutory rape, birthing horrors, and all the other disgusting things that happen in this book I feel like it was just written for shock value.

Julian's story was mildly interesting at times but it yet again just made other characters that previously had a good sense to them, now became dull and without any wit. Lasher's tale was utterly boring and didn't need to be nearly as long as it was. And the climax makes absolutely no sense considering the climax of the previous book (trying not to include spoilers). Even Lasher himself is completely contradicted in the end.

I left The Witching Hour being interested in a few of the side characters and hoping the main characters would pull themselves together and be the characters they claimed to be. However, this book proved they really don't.

At this point I'm just finishing the series so I can move on in The Vampire Chronicles...
