Definitely not a romcom. My first Mhairi McFarlane so was not expecting how serious this book would be. Delves straight into grief in a way I haven’t really read before- you are basically going through the stages of grief with the main character Eve and, to make it even worse, you see her process that she didn’t really know her best friend Susie as well as she thought she did.
I thought the characters were really well fleshed out and I really loved what Mhairi did with Eve/Ed. It was refreshing to see her confront Ed and honestly it felt a bit shamefully relatable at times.
Adored Fin. I do wish there was maybe 50 more pages at the end so his end of things didn’t feel as rushed, and we could really get to witness a “payoff”. Would’ve been a solid 4 with that!
