This was a fantastic dark fairytale. The story moves slowly at first as Marra is painstakingly completing tasks to kill a prince. Then, things start to snowball quickly as their group of odd characters come together. Their visit to the goblin market is the biggest turning point, and was full of dark faerie-ness. Perhaps my favorite part. The old women, demon chicken, and knight all made me laugh and want to root for them. Their journey and its motives all seem realistic, even though every moment feels straight from some fairytale (fairy tales had to start somewhere right?). I really enjoyed the directness of the writing, and dry humor throughout. Definitely recommend to anyone who’s even a little bit of a fan of fairy tales. This is memorable and short enough to have high re-reading potential.
