Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

5.0

I remember this book popping up everywhere around me. Everywhere. It was constantly in an on and off relationship with my TBR list. A few days ago, I managed to find it in an ebook format and finally decided  to read it.

I am angry with myself, for delaying it so much.

The book starts from an interesting point in Simon's life, which automatically sparks the reader's interest from the very first page.

Also, the exchange of chapters, between narration and emails, makes the structure of the text, unconventional and interesting. It is being read easily, without it being light. It is built on simple, everyday vocabulary and the problems of an average teenager. You just flow with it, and you do not understand when the pages pass by.

I knew who was the notorious Blue when I was in the first 20 pages of the book due to a stray spoiler. However, this did not affect my reading experience,  at all. The " The destination doesn't matter. The journey is." was undoubtedly applicable in  this situation. I was eager  to see what is happening in the meantime and how things will end up the way they do. This is a great feat for a book, in my opinion.

One more element that has fascinated me, is the references to other books. It was a delightful note, and gave authenticity to the whole narrative of a modern teen who is a bit geek.

The end I loved a lot. In my opinion it was very nice and fitting.
