Bittersweet Always by Ella Fields

Ella Fields has done it again. Nobody try to talk to me right now, I’m trying to process. Good heavens I just don’t know how much more my heart can take. I thought Suddenly Forbidden was all the things, Bittersweet Always takes those things and screwed them up and chucked them out the window. I have no feels left to give, Ella has stolen them with her words. Ella’s writing is flawless and captivated me from the first chapter, I lost sleep, I just couldn’t put this book down, when I couldn’t keep my eyes open any more, I napped for a couple of hours and as soon as I woke up, I was straight back to this couple and their story. This book is one of those books that will stay with me for a very long time. This isn’t just a romance, this is an enlightening piece of work that can help people understand and accept. I loved the acceptance that came with this story - it was such a huge part of the storyline. It filled me with happiness to see such a difficult subject handled with such grace, respect, and care. My hat goes off to Ella. Ella, thank you for writing this book, thank you for showing Toby and Pippa’s strength. Mostly, thank you for not shying away from this subject matter and doing it justice.

This book is filled with characters you can’t help but love. We see Daisy and Quinn from Suddenly Forbidden, and it was so cute seeing their relationship from Pippa and Toby’s eyes - if you didn’t read SF because the cheating element was too much for you, rest assured you can pick up there story here and know what happens without the nitty gritty of it all. Callum, swoon, I still love him, I really hope his story is next. Toby Hawthorne is one of those characters you can’t help but love and root for. He is sweet and charming, but he also has demons, he doesn’t always handle things correctly, and at times he frustrated the hell out of me, but I could also understand his actions too. His strength has no comparison. Pippa James, my girl! She freaking rocks! Her strength is astounding, I loved her so much. She was feisty and independent, she stood her ground when she needed to. When she loves, she loves with her whole heart.

I loved the relationship between Toby and Pippa, it was filled with acceptance and understanding. They had their ups and downs for sure, and sometimes it was hard to watch the difficulties they were going through. At times I was shouting at my kindle, begging them not to do something... or to do something. And that’s what makes this such an amazing read, that it can have me shouting, and crying, and sometimes even chuckling. I just couldn’t put it down. I can’t stop thinking about it. I think this just became my favourite book of 2018.

The cover for this book, sheesh, have you seen it? It’s beautiful. I have to say, I think this and the cover for Suddenly Forbidden are two of the best covers I’ve ever seen. I’m going to need to get them on my shelf.
