The Very Nice Box by Eve Gleichman, Laura Blackett
3.75

This is a book that I can’t work out how to feel about! Was it terrible or very well done?? I can’t work it out!
In one word it was ridiculous. It describes itself as a satire of toxic masculinity but in ways I think the whole book was instead.
It’s also described as a rom com ?? To me it was not, maybe comedy yes as for how silly so much of the book was. It felt very jumpy, the characters were as flat as Ikea furniture but at the same time made decisions completely out of character, there was no romance there.
The redeeming quality of this book was the depiction of grief in the first half which I thought was well done.
I would recommend this one if you want to read something RIDICULOUS. It was so easy to race through with the short chapters and just funny how silly it was. To me the twists weren’t that shocking but laugh out loud when they happened, because again, silly.
In all honesty trying to think about how to rate this, if the authors intended for this book to be this way, well done. Otherwise, some bits were questionable.
Altogether 3.75⭐️ would recommend for a silly goofy mood 😂

SPOILER
At times though I don’t know how much it was satire and just really making fun of someone who you realise is clearly quite mentally ill.
